Meet Katie & Marty

Katie Hargreaves, LCSW, LCAS

Therapist and Counselor

Katie Hargreaves, Online Counselor

Fear is totally natural, and when it turns into constant worry it can feel crushing and inescapable. Your thoughts can start to run on repeat, and it can seem like you can never slow down. All this can feel really hard to find a way out of.

My aim is to help you reconnect with yourself, and find freedom from anxiety through therapy.

In therapy, we will experience tools to help you feel calm again. We will help develop skills to manage anxiety and find your calm again.

I am a white, queer, cis-woman psychotherapist and engage in anti-racist, liberation frameworks and trainings to address my biases that may come up as a therapist.

Online Counseling in North Carolina

Licensed Clinical Social Worker C015197
Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist LCAS-26516

Outside of Session

I attend trainings and consultation to increase my competency and decrease my biases that may affect therapy. I also like to sit under a tree in Durham and continue to edit my website to include the words “Durham” and “Chapel Hill” as much as possible, to optimize the algorithm of course.

Off the Clock

I train service dogs, walk my dog, Marty, at Duke Forest, and spend time with friends. I love learning High Valyrian while drinking a good cup of Earl or Lady Grey tea.

Marty

Therapy Assistant

I am frequently featured in sessions and occasionally doing a trick to help clients with co-regulation. There’s really cool research that even having a dog in the frame virtually or moving during sessions can affect client’s stress levels.

It’s a toss up between what I like more, treats or people. I’m looking forward to returning to animal assisted therapy work in 2024 with my mum.

Qualifications

Former Service Dog in Training

Community Therapy Dog

Outside of Session

I snuggle up under the bed (I love cave-like places), go to community events to support students at nearby colleges, convince Katie to take me outside to lay in the sun, and nap in multiple contorted sleeping positions.

Off the Clock

I enjoy walking in the woods, backpacking, sniffaris, and playing fetch. I’d do anything for a ball!

Land Acknowledgement

While my practice is currently virtual and throughout the state of North Carolina, I live and work in Durham County. Durham County is located on stolen and occupied Lumbee, Tuscarora, Cheraw, Catawba, Occaneechi, and Shakori land.
